Perched above the charming San Francesco creek that flows down into the bay in central Rapallo, this extremely sunny vacation apartment is located on the ground floor of a classic Genovese building which houses two other families. Just beyond the apartment’s convenient parking spot in front there is a private shade tent with lounge chairs for casual dining and relaxing and below that sprawls a vegetable garden area that runs down to the creek.
Inside the newly refurnished apartment there are two bedrooms, a spacious bathroom with shower, an attractive living room and a complete kitchen. Completely refurbished a few years ago, the moderately large apartment is maintained perfectly and looks brand new.
Although the building is located in a spacious clearing, the entire neighborhood is filled with trees and various gardens, including that of the owner, who lives in the large house 100 yards further along the driveway. The bubbling sounds of the water in the creek and the abundant bird life add charm and a sense of tranquility, but access to Rapallo and the transportation systems is quite easy. A twenty-minute walk up the creek from the train station or the famous castle on the Rapallo shoreline, the route is also serviced by the local bus line and taxis.
Rapallo offers many attractions of its own, and is reasonably close to both the Pisa and Genova airports. Portofino, the breathtaking watering hole of the jet-set, is just at the end of the small Tigullio peninsula and can be reached by bus in twenty minutes. The adjacent towns of Santa Margherita and Camogli offer their own unique delights and can be easily reached by car, bus or train. The deservedly famous Cinque Terre, adored by seaside trail hikers, is less than an hour away by train, and the museums of Florence, the ski resorts in the Mediterranean Alps, and fabulous haute-couture shopping in Milan can all be reached in just over two hours by train, and less by car.
The biggest attraction in this area however, is obviously the enchanting seashore of the Gulf of Tigullio. Steep mountains covered with lush green growth plunge directly into the blue sea. Perfect for swimming and skin diving, the clear turquoise waters feature abundant colorful fish and no hungry sharks! Although the bathing season is long, usually from May through October, the entire coastline is enchanting twelve months of the year. The particular bay that houses Rapallo has been a favorite vacation spot since Etruscan times, and the summer season still sees an influx of many thousands of visitors. Great numbers of both the ultra-wealthy and the common working folk arrive here in August from every country in the world, only to depart in September and leave Rapallo as the sleepy little coastal village that it still is at heart.
