Officially part of Trinity Church parish, St. Paul’s Chapel was originally founded in 1766 and stands today as one of the nation’s best examples of late Georgian church architecture. It is also currently the oldest standing church building in Manhattan since it survived both the Great Fire of 1776 and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001."

George Washington was said to have worshipped in the chapel following his inauguration as first President of the United States. "Dating back to the late 17th and 18th centuries, the African Burial Ground is a reminder to New York City of the many Africans who spent their lives in slavery. The original burial ground spanned 6.6 acres and is believed to have interred around 20,000 people during the 1700s. Confined to history until 1991, it was not until the construction of the Ted Weiss Federal Building that this dark chapter of their past came to light."

"In 1991, construction workers uncovered a burial ground filled more than 400 caskets containing the bodies of enslaved Africans from the 17th and 18th century – an age when New York had more slaves than any American city outside Charleston, South Carolina. Today, visitors can tour the African Burial Ground National Monument site and visit the compact visitors center to learn about African-American history in the city."

"This relative newcomer to Smith Street in Boerum Hill is the perfect spot to indulge in a slice of cake and cup of coffee. Their large window filled with baked good is so enticing, it's hard to walk past without stopping in for a quick treat. Of course, Mia's Bakery isn't a place to just stop in, it's better when you have the time to hang out and linger over your latte."
