The Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Show began in 1944 and has helped with the education of thousands of young people in the county with scholarships. The fair is put on by volunteers and consists of many fun family activities. There are carnival rides, a rodeo, livestock shows, and live music at the fair, held in May each year. The fairgrounds are located at 4511 FM 2668 in Bay City.

Matagorda’s Seafood Festival is an event that supports schools, the fire department, and other charities. There is live music, vendors, a live auction, and some of the best seafood harvested from local waters. The festival is held at the Matagorda Fire Station in March each year.

Sponsored by Lion’s Club, the Bay City Rice Festival is held in January, with a Queen’s Pageant and a festival held at the fairgrounds for an entire weekend. There are vendors, great food, and a parade along with other festivities to keep the entire family entertained.
