"After its founding in 1918 as the first life insurance company in Tulsa, Atlas Life Insurance began constructing a high-rise building in the shape of an inverted "T." The company occupied the building from 1922 until it was sold in 1991. Above 12 stories done in a Classical Revival design, the building’s façade features a statue of Atlas—the Titan of ancient Greek mythology—holding the sky on his shoulders. The four-story, pink and green neon sign hanging above the entrance was added in 1946, and is a prominent landmark on Boston Avenue from the north and south."
